Renesas processors are commonly found in Japanese ECUs and are quite common in Japanese vehicles than in their Western counterparts. The most famous families are the SH705x and SH725xx, they have been in use since 2005 until today. Denso is an ECU manufacturer that makes extensive use of Renesas processors. OBD and bench protocols allow full access to the ECU: both the internal flash memory and the internal EEPROM can be fully read and written as a backup file for cloning and restoring purposes. Flex allows you to directly read and write maps, as well as calculate the checksum for all tuning enthusiasts.
